Ionic is a free framework to create hybrid mobile apps using HTML and CSS. Here is how you can get started quickly:

Step 1: Setup Node.js if not already installed

Ionic, as of now, works only with Node.js version 4. If you have not already installed Node 5 (or a higher version of Node.js than version 4), then go ahead and install Node 4 first and move to step 2.  In case you have a higher version of Node.js already installed, you will need to install version 4. Luckily you can have different versions Node working side by side using nvm (node version manager). To setup nvm, open terminal window (command prompt in Windows) and run this command:

curl -o- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/creationix/nvm/v0.31.0/install.sh | bash

Next, run this to activate nvm:

. ~/.nvm/nvm.sh

Now use nvm to install the version 4 of node using this command:

nvm install 4.0

You can now use version 4 of node:

nvm use 4.0

Step 2: Install Ionic

Ionic version 2 (beta) is out, so let's install it by running this in terminal window:

$ npm install -g ionic@beta

Ionic version 2 (beta) is out, so let's install it by running this in terminal window:
